The sperm tail is related to sperm motility, which is a prerequisite for fertilization. At present, electron microscopy is commonly used to observe the ultrastructure of the sperm tail, which requires sectioning, coating, and other treatments. This belongs to injury based observation. This article uses terahertz near-field technology to directly perform non-destructive imaging of the sperm tail, which can observe the internal axonal structure and mitochondrial sheath.
