Abstract An experiment was performed at Gadanki, India (13.5 N, 79.2 E) from October 17th to 22nd, 2011. The experiment involved measuring the concentration of atmospheric radon, as well as meteorological factors and MST radar signal strengths in tropo-stratosphere mode. The objective of this experiment was to examine the influence of convective activity on the vertical profiles of several parameters. A comparison has been conducted between the fluctuations of these parameters during the convective event that occurred on October 22, 2011, and data that is similar to that obtained on previous days. The results indicate a significant correlation between the upward movement of radon, the subsequent impact on the dispersion of water vapour, and the vertical structure of radar reflectivity and vertical winds. There has been a notable increase in the range of vertical wind at the period when convective activity was at its most advanced, and these observations are the first of this kind.
