The classical Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) is a key two-port device in the grid. In this brief, to realize the multi-AC-port (MAC) function of MMC structure, a detailed topology extension solution has been proposed, by which a group of novel MAC-MMC topologies can be constructed for different application scenarios. An in-depth exploration is given including the generalized mathematical model, the essential circulating current components, and the corresponding suppression strategy. Besides, a developed partitioned nearest level modulation method is presented for submodule capacitor voltage self-balancing of MAC-MMC. The work might enhance the understanding of advanced applications of complex MMC topologies.
