Failure to ride through faults or events and the modification of sequence components during faults by the control system of inverter-based resource (IBR) are matter of concern during network operations. Standards like IEEE-2800 address technical minimum requirements for IBR interconnecting with the transmission system (TS). We have developed a diagnostic tool to confirm if IBR performance is compliant with the IEEE-2800 standard. The tool monitors the line-to-line and line-to-ground voltages, positive and negative sequences of voltage and current, and active and reactive powers at the point of measurement. It assesses these quantities to determine mode of operation and current injection slops of IBR during network faults. In case of inadvertent tripping, the tool also provides root cause analysis and possible remedial actions like changing mode of operation, gain setting, etc. It also helps IBR owners to monitor PLL performance. Case studies are presented on test systems using PSCAD simulation. Some scenarios underscore the requirement of diagnostic tool.
