Their efforts to command a premium for greener production have not succeeded. Impacts Gold miner Agnico Eagle has acquired 11% of Canada Nickel Company, marking its first incursion in the sector and signposting more M&A ahead. Lower price impacts include impairment charges for BHP at its Nickel West mine and a USD500mn writedown on Anglo American’s nickel deals. Nickel prices rose after Alexey Navalny’s death on hope that new US sanctions against Russia may target the metal; none have come yet.
