Comprehensive overview of sedimentation measurement methods in coastal areas, highlighting various sensors used.
Floods are a natural phenomenon that regularly occurs and cannot be avoided. As a result of this incident, various humanitarian, economic and social problems occurred. The incident occurs more often in coastal areas. One of the causes is the high level of sedimentation compared to upstream areas. Various efforts to reduce the occurrence of sedimentation, including dredging rivers. For this reason, it is necessary to measure the sedimentation level so that it can be handled appropriately. The study discusses sedimentation measurements that have been carried out by previous researchers. The aim of the paper is to provide a comprehensive overview of measuring sedimentation rates. The various methods and sensors used to measure sediment levels are clearly presented. The methods used include testing in laboratories set up to resemble real conditions, as well as in rivers, beaches and the sea. The sensors used range from the simplest to the most complex, such as electrodes, photodetectors, ultrasonics, cameras. starting from the basic theory of using methods and sensors and continuing with an explanation of the applications that have been used in several studies clearly and accurately. The review results show that it is very important to know the location of the sediment object before determining the method and sensor to be used. Opportunities for measurements and research that can be carried out in the future are provided in the paper.
