This report explores a new force model for hot reversing mills, suggesting improved accuracy in measuring flow stress.
An improved force model accounting for therrnal effects is the subject of this report. The goal was to develop a more accurate model for hot reversing mills. To accomplish this a systematic asymptotic formulation was used to deal with the combined thermo/mechanical problem. A key feature to examine was the effect of through thickness temperature variations on roll force. This manifests itself primarily by affecting the flow stress. The objective was to develop closed form results that could be easily implemented in control systems.
