Analysis reveals how capillary, elastic, and drag forces influence foam flow dynamics in porous media, indicating new flow rules.
The problem of foam flow in porous media is treated as a creeping of bubble trains through effectively smooth capillaries with periodically varying cross-sectional areas. It is shown that the competition between capillary forces, elastic forces and drag forces leads to the flow rule which resembles the equation of motion of polymer solutions based on “Darsy’s fluid.” Effect of capillary pinning of foam in porous media is discussed in detail.
