This analysis compares pinch and exergy techniques for integrating heat pumps in processes, suggesting optimization methods.
A comparison between the pinch and exergy techniques is performed by introducing heat engines and heat pumps. Also the threshold problem is discussed. The exergy technique is shown to be advantageous to pinch technique when heat pumps are available and methods as EUD are then recommended as an optimization tool.
