Analytical model predicts thermal conductivities in plain weave and twill weave composites, suggesting microstructure impacts performance.
This paper first identifies the intrinsic geometrical relations among the unit cells of composites based upon plain weave, twill weave, and 4-harness satin weave fabrics. A general analytical model for determining the composite effective transverse thermal conductivities is developed based upon the microstructure of 4-harness fabric composites. Analytical solutions are obtained and numerical examples are given for practical composite systems. The validation of the theoretical predictions is obtained from existing results for plain weave fabric composites.
