This analysis reveals a new strength criterion for concrete, suggesting effective failure prediction methods.
The composite nature and complex failure mechanism of concrete dictate a need for a more rational approach to strength criterion development. In this study, it is to demonstrate the utility of a scalar valued function invariant theory as applied to concrete failure prediction. A vigorously mathematical and physical strength criterion, a cubic strength function, is proposed. The general results are applicable to any quasi-elastic brittle isotropic or anisotropic material, but for the purpose of concrete characterization, a specific strength function for concrete is developed.
