Geometric model predicts surface topography in surface grinding, indicating process parameters affect texture.
A geometric-kinematic model for the generation of surface topography in a single-pass surface grinding process is presented. The model incorporates the effects of process parameters such as feed and wheel speed and also takes into account the wheel topography and original workpiece surface texture. Comparisons between model-simulated output and experimental results show a good match, suggesting the validity of the model. Further, simulation studies made using the model are used to understand the effects of process parameters on the three-dimensional surface texture.
