With the widespread use of new energy technology and high-voltage direct current transmission technology, the risk of subsynchronous oscillation (SSO) in power systems has increased. To improve system stability, synchronous condensers (SC) are used as reactive power compensation devices to study the optimization method of SC suppressing SSO reactive power output. Firstly, analyze the mathematical model of SC output reactive power, analyze the key excitation parameters that affect the reactive power output of the condenser, determine the evaluation indicators of SC reactive power output characteristics, and then analyze the mechanism of SSO occurrence to determine the evaluation indicator that reflects the risk of SSO occurrence - damping ratio. Taking the reactive power compensation capability of SC as the objective function, using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to optimize, an optimization model for damping ratio and excitation parameters is established and solved. Finally, the wind power system was built through a simulation platform to verify the inhibitory effect of SC on SSO. The results indicate that the optimized SC reactive power output method can better suppress system SSO and improve system stability.
