The Lex30 productive vocabulary measure (Meara and Fitzpatrick, 2000) has been used mainly in studies with university students (Fitzpatrick and Clenton 2010). Some studies have documented its use with young learners (Catalá & Espinosa, 2005; Espinosa, 2009). This paper reports on the Lex15, an adapted version of the Lex30 which measures the productive vocabulary of young learners, from 5 to 12 years old. The Lex15 has fewer items and can be administered orally. Using the measure with 57 participants aged 6-9, we found that it has good test-retest reliability and internal consistency, and that it correlates with other vocabulary measures.
