Universal motors are widely used in various applications due to their versatility in operating with both AC and DC power sources. However, controlling the speed of these motors efficiently while maintaining the desired performance characteristics presents a significant challenge. This paper proposes a novel approach for universal motor speed control leveraging the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) technique. The proposed method utilizes PWM signals to control the average voltage supplied to the motor, thereby regulating its speed.By adjusting the duty cycle of the PWM signal, the effective voltage across the motor can be modulated, enabling precise speed control across a wide range of operating conditions. This paper discusses the theoretical background of PWM and its application in motor speed control. It elaborates on the design considerations and implementation details necessary for integrating PWM-based speed control into universal motor systems.Furthermore, the advantages of PWM-based control, such as improved efficiency, reduced noise, and enhanced dynamic response, are explored.Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed PWMbased speed control technique in regulating the speed of universal motors under various load conditions. The system exhibits robust performance, achieving accurate speed control with minimal power losses. In conclusion, the proposed PWM-based speed control technique offers a versatile and efficient solution for regulating the speed of universal motors, enhancing their applicability in a wide range of industrial and consumer applications.
