Using quantum information geometry, I derive quantum generalizations of the Onsager rate equations, which model the dynamics of a system near a steady state. By redefining the currents, I propose a version of the equations with a symmetric transport tensor without assuming any detailed balance. With a more conventional definition of the currents, I propose another version where the transport tensor may not be symmetric and detailed balance is a sufficient, though not necessary, condition for the symmetry of the tensor. The relations and relative merits of the two versions are discussed.
