This paper designed a method for size determination and optimal placement of Renewable energy generators (REG) in radial distribution feeder (RDF) using particle swarm optimization (PSO). An objective function (OF) is formulated using the loss of real power (LOP), loss of reactive power (LOQ) and summation of deviation of voltages (DOV) on various nodes of RDF. This OF is minimized by placing the REG of different magnitudes at different nodes of the RDF. Location nodes and respective capacity of REG is selected for which the OF has minimum value. Study is performed considering the REG capacity of IMV A, 2MV A, 3MV A, 4MV A, and 5MVA. Performance of the proposed method is evaluated in terms of indicator of real power loss (IRPL), indicator of reactive power loss (IRQL), and indicator of voltage deviation (IVD). Performance of the proposed method is compared with the genetic algorithm (GA) based method. Study is performed using MATLAB software.
