The emergence of the novel COVID-19 disease fuels explosive growth in internet services such as smart healthcare systems for remote patient monitoring. The Internet of Things (IoT) is made up of numerous devices that communicate with one another, such as sensor nodes, gateways, actuators, base stations, and so on. A critical component of the smart city project is remote passenger health monitoring using IoT technology combined with Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET). Several issues confront the IoT- enabled VANET, including privacy preservation, security, energy efficiency, and Quality of Service (QoS). To protect patients' identities and sensitive medical information, smart healthcare systems must provide privacy and security. We investigate the various security solutions for VANET communications that have recently been offered in this study. We investigated both cryptography-based and trust management-based security options for VANET communications. These methods were developed with smart healthcare applications and other general applications in mind. We present the research gap analysis study after discussing several methodologies. The findings of this paper are the various research problems that must be addressed for safe VANET communications.
