Abstract

In this study introduces an innovative Internet of Things (IoT)-based alert system designed for medical settings, with the primary goal of preventing saline reversal incidents. The administration of saline is crucial for patient recovery in healthcare facilities, but lapses in staff attention can lead to dangerous reversals. Our proposed system strategically places sensors in the saline network to detect improper flow, specifically backflow of blood, and promptly notifies medical staff via mobile message upon detection. If saline levels drop below a predefined limit, the sensor stops the flow and sends an alert. A user-friendly web application allows real-time monitoring of flow rates. The core components of the system include the ESP8266 as the master controller, a load cell for precise bottle weight measurement, and a servo motor for drip control. Efficient alerts are sent through the IFTTT server, ensuring timely communication via SMS or call. This technological innovation significantly enhances patient safety by reducing harmful incidents associated with saline administration. The web app provides healthcare staff with a convenient platform to monitor current saline levels, marking a critical advancement in healthcare technology for improved patient care and safety.
