Mountain regions are undergoing tremendous and rapid climate and environmental change. Technological advancements, data acquisition and management methods have greatly improved our ability to observe and understand the Earth's hydrological, climatic systems. However, there are still data-to-policy gaps in critical areas such as Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), especially in vulnerable mountain environments. This presentation will explore the central role of data services from global to local scales in bridging the gap between observations and informed decision making in DRR and resilience research and planning in mountain and glacier environments. Both successful and unsuccessful case studies will be presented, evaluated and discussed.
