South Africa is a country endowed with great landscapes. The country’s strategic location at the southern tip of Africa juxtaposes it to be a melting pot of both biological and geomorphological diversity. Therefore, the country has some magnificent mountain ranges that have deep significance within the local communities. One such mountain is the Soutpansberg range in Limpopo Province. Positioned in the northernmost parts of the country, the Soutpansberg range stretches from east to west and forms a large portion of the Vhembe Biosphere Reserve. The range is an important landmark of the region. Consequently, it is a significant geoheritage feature. This paper explores the geomorphological features found in the mountain range and illustrate their significance to the local heritage. The geomorphological features range from hydrological features like waterfalls and potholes to geomorphological ones such as cliffs and gorges. All have a deep legacy in the region.
