Objective: To summarize the diagnostic value of two imaging modalities, ultrasound and nuclear magnetic resonance imaging MRI, in non-puerperal mastitis, focusing on two major pathologic types: plasmacytoid mastitis (PCM) and granulomatous lobular mastitis (GLM).Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on 41 cases of GLM and 59 cases of PCM confirmed by surgery or biopsy in our hospital from December 2012 to May 2023.All patients underwent preoperative ultrasound and MRI.Results: There was no significant difference in the diagnostic accuracy of GLM among ultrasound, MRI and combined diagnosis. For the diagnostic accuracy of PCM, combined diagnosis is better than MRI.For lesions with the largest diameter < 3.3cm, the diagnostic accuracy of ultrasound and combined diagnosis was better than that of NMR.For lesions with maximum diameter > 3.3cm, the diagnostic accuracy of combined diagnosis was better than that of NMR.For the diagnosis accuracy of mass NPM, combined diagnosis is better than ultrasound. For the diagnostic accuracy of non-mass NPM, combined diagnosis is better than MRI.Conclusions: For the diagnosis of NPM, ultrasound and MRI have their own advantages. The selection of appropriate imaging methods is helpful to improve the diagnostic accuracy.
