StudyIt goes without saying that raising and educating children are among the objectives of literature. From the early days, nations have realized the importance of poetry in addressing the conscience of children, instilling noble values in them, teaching them good morals and facilitating their educational achievement. Therefore, each nation relied on poetry to communicate its values to its children and young people. This matter evolved until at the beginning of the twentieth century the literature of children appeared as a major trend, in Arabic and Turkish literature, with its principles, components and objectives.Egyptian poet "Ahmed Shawqi" and Turkish poet "Tevfik Fikret" pioneered -each one in his nation-in laying the foundations of the children's poetry. This comparative study is devoted to children's poetry by these two great poets.Ahmed Shawqi belonged to the school of "Neoclassicism," which upheld the duty of revival of ancient Arabic poetry, especially the poetry of the Abbasid era.As for Tevfik Fikret, he belonged to the school of "Servet-i Fünun," which adopted the methodology of renewing Turkish poetry by benefitting from the French poetry. However, the two poets were similar in many points, especially in the style of stories and poetic tales for children.
