A method for producing signals with coherence that decays exponentially as a function of the product of frequency and distance in the manner described by Corcos is proposed. This type of coherence constraint is used for simulating loads resulting from turbulent propagation or pressure signals resulting from wind noise. The present method is executed by stochastically perturbing the phase of the signal as a Gaussian random variable scaled by a simple function of frequency, distance, and a velocity-like decay parameter. While the present focus of this work is on producing signals that exhibit Corcos-type coherence decay, other varieties of coherence relationships including those associated with a diffuse field can also be produced with this approach.
