After a paper has been entered into Editorial Manager at the Journal Editorial Office, it is sent to the Editor-in-Chief.So, each year the Editor-in-Chief receives between 7500 and 10000 submissions. He then distributes the papers to the individual Editors. The point we are emphasizing here is that the Editors then process each paper from that point through to the final decision. So, the critical point to keep in mind is that the Editors are all themselves well-published, active researchers. There are no intervening office staff or other professionals involved-just the Editors working with the authors-all are scientists. Each year the journal publishes 1000-1400 articles. The Journal of Materials Science has a long tradition of publishing papers on Bio and Medical Materials Science, which we group together as Materials for life sciences.Much of this research also concerns Chemical Routes to Materials so we are combining the two here.We include our two modeling Editors since modeling and informatics-driven design and optimization of materials are becoming increasingly important in these fields.
