The purpose of this study was to investigate how listening-based reading classes using audiobooks differ from ordinary reading classes and how they affect on reading comprehension ability of Korean learners.Audiobooks are a new type of reading medium that can be heard and viewed without the restriction of time and space.Using these audiobook features, 19 international students enrolled in the Korean Language Education Center's beginner level 2 were given "reading and answering" and "writing in summary" exercises to gauge their reading comprehension proficiency. As a result of learning the contents of Korean textbooks by dividing them into audiobooks group and paper books group, no significant difference was obtained. However, in the case of Korean traditional fairy tale texts, significant results were obtained from the comparison between the audiobooks group that are listening-based reading and the ordinary paper books group. The learning motivation and text comprehension of students who learned through audiobook activities were found to be greater in some experimental group results. These findings suggest that audiobooks can help increase the reading ability of Korean learners. Therefore, it is advisable to use audiobooks to help with reading comprehension skills in Korean reading education.
