Atactic poly[(R,S)-3-hydroxybutanoic acid] with varying enantiomer ratios was synthesized using a combination of renewable (R)-3-hydroxybutanoic acid and its racemic mixture. The melting temperature of the synthesized atactic polymers was consistently lower than that of poly[(R)-3-hydroxybutanoic acid], exhibiting a decreasing trend with an increasing enantiomer ratio. The biodegradability of the synthesized polymers was assessed through enzymatic and seawater degradation studies.
