Case report demonstrates successful ligation of carotid artery aneurysm in Takayasu arteritis patients, highlighting individualized treatment strategies.
Takayasu arteritis (TA) is a rare, chronic large-vessel vasculitis that often leads to vascular complications, including aneurysm formation. Extracranial carotid artery (ECCA) aneurysms, though rare, represent a significant challenge in patients with TA due to the fragility and stenosis of affected arterial walls, which increases the risk of rupture and complicates management. Infected CCA aneurysms pose an additional risk, with potential for life-threatening rupture and severe complications. This case report discusses the successful management of a ruptured CCA aneurysm in a patient with TA using internal carotid artery ligation. The report highlights the technical challenges and intraoperative decision-making involved in this approach, emphasizing the importance of individualized treatment strategies in life-threatening situations.
