We consider running coupling constant and beta-function in holographic models supported by Einstein-dilaton-Maxwell action for heavy and light quarks. We obtain a significant dependence of the running coupling constant α and β-function on chemical potential and temperature. At first-order phase transitions, the functions α and β-functions undergo jumps depending on temperature and chemical potential. For heavy quarks these jumps depend more sharply on thermodynamic parameters. The magnitude of the jumps increases with decreasing energy scales for both light and heavy quarks.
