Rate distortion optimization (RDO) plays a significant role in video coding to balance the rate and distortion. For 3D video, RDO is carried out both on captured video and depth sequences. For better display quality, distortion must be minimum with better visual quality. In this paper, an adaptive RDO algorithm is proposed to match human vision for 3D video. Effect of depth distortion on synthesis distortion is not linear and the same concept is used in implementing the algorithm. The texture homogeneity is used to scale the Lagrange multiplier that balances the rate and distortion. The rate and distortion are plotted to measure the performance. The algorithm shows improvement in SSIM along with lesser bitrate requirement
