In this work, we study the Sobolev stability of shear flows near Couette in the 2D incompressible magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) equations with background magnetic field (α,0 )^ on T× R . More precisely, for sufficiently large α , we show that when the initial datum of the shear flow satisfies \| U(y)-y \|_HN+6 1 , with $N>1$ , and the initial perturbations uᵢₙ and bᵢₙ satisfy \| ( uᵢₙ,bᵢₙ) \| _HN+1=ε ν 56+ δ for any fixed δ >0 , then the solution of the 2D MHD equations remains ν -(1/3+ δ /2)ε -close to ( e^ν t ∂ yyU(y),0)^ for all $t>0$ .
