The current study aimed to identify the psychological needs of university youth and the relationship between them and the orientation towards pursuing sports activities.( 250) females. To achieve the aim of the study, the psychological needs scale was used, prepared by (Deci & Ryan 1999), Arabization of Elayan 2005, and the scale of orientation towards pursuing sports activities by Allawi 1998. The current study reached the following results: 1- There is a statistically significant relationship at the level of significance of 0.05 between the average scores of the respondents on the psychological needs scale and their average scores on the orientation scale towards pursuing sports activities. 2- There are statistically significant differences at the level of significance of 0.05 between the average scores of the respondents on the two scales of psychological needs and the orientation towards pursuing sports activities according to the gender variable. 3- There are statistically significant differences at the level of significance of 0.05 between the mean scores of the respondents on the two scales of psychological needs and the orientation towards pursuing sports activities according to the scientific specialization variable. 4- There are statistically significant differences at the level of significance of 0.05 between the mean scores of the respondents on the two scales of psychological needs and the tendency towards pursuing sports activities according to the variable of age. Based on the results of the study, proposals were developed in light of it to pay attention to the psychological needs of young people and the importance of sports in satisfying some of these psychological needs.
