This analysis measures economic growth through events in Jakarta, suggesting a shift in its economic model for global competitiveness.
Jakarta as a global city must seek a distinctive economic growth model to provide memorable experiences for visitors. The relocation of the capital to Nusantara requires Jakarta to prepare a new stable economic model so that no negative spillover affects its economy once it no longer serves as the seat of government. This study aims to measure and analyze the economic impact of hosting major events in Jakarta such as the creative industries, MICE events and multisport events within an urban tourism framework that has the potential to generate foreign exchange and attract foreign direct investment. The research method replicates the Swiftonomics model from Singapore in the Jakarta context by using the 2016 input–output table, which is updated to the 2023 input–output table through RAS partial survey. The analysis focuses on changes in output, labor absorption, income multipliers, output multipliers and intersectoral linkages. The results indicate a potential increase in output of Rp 65.85 trillion and the creation of 8.3 million jobs. The sectors with the highest output multipliers are wholesale and retail trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, while the largest income multiplier is found in the labour‑intensive manufacturing sector.
