SWOT analysis reveals strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of telephysiotherapy in BiH, suggesting pathways for integration into healthcare.
Telephysiotherapy is a form of telerehabilitation that enables the provision of physiotherapy services through digital technologies. This form of rehabilitation reduces geographical and financial barriers and allows patients to access therapies without the need to travel. The COVID-19 pandemic has further accelerated the implementation and acceptance of telephysiotherapy. The aim of this paper is to analyze the advantages, disadvantages, opportunities and threats of telephysiotherapy in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) through a SWOT analysis and to propose guidelines for its integration into the healthcare system. The paper is based on an analysis of the available literature and previous research on telerehabilitation, as well as a SWOT analysis of telephysiotherapy in BiH. The SWOT analysis identified the following key aspects of telephysiotherapy in BiH: strengths (accessibility, flexibility, cost reduction, continuous patient monitoring, digitalization of healthcare); weaknesses (technological limitations, low digital literacy, limitations in clinical assessment, lack of trust, insufficient regulation); opportunities (market development, technological innovation, international support, education and awareness, post-pandemic trends); threats (lack of financial resources, competition, technological problems, regulatory barriers, user skepticism). Telephysiotherapy has significant potential for improving rehabilitation services in BiH, but its full implementation requires legislative adaptation, improvement of technological infrastructure, education of patients and physiotherapists, and ensuring financial sustainability. Inter-sectoral cooperation is recommended to ensure the long-term development of telephysiotherapy.
