Key Points

  • Key factors influencing elearning adoption include performance expectancy, perceived enjoyment, and facilitating conditions.
  • Data collected from 412 university students in Northern India highlights significant predictors of behavioral intentions.
  • Structural equation modeling revealed that effort expectancy and social influences have negligible impacts on elearning adoption.
  • Focus on improving elearning systems is essential, suggesting curriculum developers prioritize utility, enjoyment, and support.

Abstract

The present research is interested in evaluating the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model and its extra predictors to examine those factors which determine the millennials and elearning issue. The relationship between behaviour intentions (BI) and further process of adopting elearning is the result on which the study is focussing on the basis of performance expectancy (PE), effort expectancy (EE), facilitating conditions (FC), social influences (SI) and learning values (LV). The participant sample in the present research paper acquires the data of 412 undergraduates and graduated students at universities of Northern India through snowball sampling. Structural equation Modeling (SEM) in SPSS and AMOS was used by the researcher to test the Hypothesis that was proposed. The three factors that crucially influenced the behavioural intention of students towards adoption of elearning are performance expectancy, perceived enjoyment, and facilitating conditions but Effort expectancy, social influences are insignificant. Interceding variable behavioural Intention also plays pertinent role in adopting elearning. The paper recommends that curriculum designers, institutional decision-makers, and platform developers put more emphasis on making elearning more useful, enjoyable and support systems as they played an important role in determining the behavioural intents and adoption of elearning. There is less importance in the need of focus on the effort expectancy and the influence of peers that reflected minor effects. In this study, the UTAUT model is expanded with additional predictors to enlighten the issue of adopting elearning among millennials to better experience and help make adequate choice with regards to the necessity of taking steps to utilize digital tools in education.
