Wireless vibration systems improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime in critical machinery at Banyu Urip, indicating a shift towards advanced monitoring technologies.
Condition monitoring technology plays a crucial role in maintaining machinery equipment integrity and, in the broader case, maintain facility reliability. This condition monitoring technology includes online and offline technology. Driven by that philosophy, high-critical and medium critical equipment installed in Banyu Urip Facility (one of Indonesia's top-producing oil field) are equipped with condition monitoring technology. However, some medium critical equipment are located in hard-to-access areas where no vibration and surveillance data can be gathered to monitor equipment healthiness, resulting in a higher probability of unplanned equipment downtime. Utilizing advanced wireless technology, a wireless vibration system was installed in hard-to-access equipment. The system provides real-time detection of vibration patterns indicative of mechanical issues, such as misalignment, imbalance, and any other failure mode. Designed for durability in harsh industrial environments, the system enables remote monitoring, significantly reducing the need for manual inspections and improving equipment reliability. By facilitating early detection of potential equipment failures, the system enhances safety, optimizes maintenance schedules, and prevents costly equipment downtimes, ultimately improving equipment uptime and reducing maintenance costs. This paper explores the architecture and deployment of the wireless vibration monitoring system at Banyu Urip. The system integrates wireless sensors operating at 2.45 GHz with the ISA 100 communication protocol, ensuring secure, end-to-end encryption. Through a network gateway and access points, the system seamlessly transmits data to the vibration monitoring application, delivering both static and dynamic data with a periodic sampling rate. The integration of this technology has proven essential in maintaining long-term equipment reliability, offering a scalable and secure solution for advanced condition monitoring in the Banyu Urip facility. Some medium critical equipment in hard-to-access areas were not equipped with any condition monitoring technology, creating difficulty in maintaining equipment integrity that can lead to system or operation disruption. Wireless vibration technology enables a proactive condition monitoring approach by seamlessly transmitting vibration data for equipment condition monitoring analysis. Hence, equipment reliability can be maintained and prevent unplanned equipment downtime.
