Numerical analysis improved stall and lift coefficients in co-flow jet airfoils for wind turbines, suggesting enhanced power generation.
The objective of the proposed study is to analyze the performance effects of mass flow in the co flow jet aero foil for Horizontal axis wind turbine applications. The numerical study performed second order discretization with coupled solution scheme of k-ω SST turbulence model to calculate the aerodynamic and power parameters. The discussion reveals that the co flow jet concept with 100% mass flow at the injection and suction provides remarkable performance compared to the other combination of mass flow. The stall and lift coefficient were improved up to 43% and 56% respectively and the power generation was also significantly high for the mass flow of 100%. The novelty of the proposed method is to predict the optimum mass flow for the HAWT aero foil with the prediction of power coefficient to enhance the performance. The proposed method is used to provide the guidance for improving the performance of existing and upcoming HAWTs.
