This review traces the formation of the Women Plastic Surgeons Forum, advocating for female representation and mentorship in surgery.
Summary: The concept of an organized group of Women Plastic Surgeons Forum originated in 1990 after the American Society of Plastic Surgeons annual meeting in Boston, Massachusetts. Grappling with concerns over the safety of silicone breast implants and their detriment to patients, 12 female plastic surgeons gathered to address this issue. Thus, the Women's Plastic Surgery Caucus was established in 1992 to advocate for patients and build representation in a historically male-dominated field. Although officially established in 2003, the Women Plastic Surgeons Forum has provided a community for empowering female surgeons in mentorship, advocacy, and leadership for more than 30 years.
