This research demonstrates resolving spectroscopic binaries and measuring angular diameters using Type I diffracted photons, suggesting improved astronomical imaging techniques.
Type I diffracted photons pass unmodified through atmospheric turbulence and allow the resolving of spectroscopic binaries. Quantum Optical Effect (QCE) plates have been used to break the diffraction limit of light in astronomical imaging. They are insensitive to atmospheric turbulences. The telescope is a particular case of a projection optical lithography system with the reticle at infinity. Recent results from projection quantum optical lithography have been applied to solve spectroscopic binaries. Capella (α Auriga) has been selected as an example. In this paper, we present the first direct optical observation, in the visible domain, of the separation of the components of the spectroscopic binary Capella Aa, Ab (α Auriga) and measurements of the angular diameter of Capella Aa (α Auriga). Microarcsecond optical astronomy will be accessible with Type I diffracted photons through QCE plates and long focal length telescopes.
