Analysis shows increased obstetric complications and lower newborn health indicators following maternal viral infection.
The relevance of the research is determined by the necessity of studying the effect of viral infection on the health of newborns in connection with the widespread occurrence of respiratory viral diseases. The research included 211 women who had coronavirus infection, acute respiratory viral infections, or influenza diagnosed at the end of pregnancy, and also control group. The analysis revealed placental insufficiency and an increase in the number of obstetric complications (lengthening of the anhydrous interval, premature birth). Newborns from mothers who had a viral infection were born with a lower body weight, a lower Apgar score and more cases of hypoxic damage to the central nervous system, compared to the control group. Postpartum rehabilitation treatment in a pediatric hospital was necessary for a significant part of the children in these groups. The data received indicate the negative impact of a viral infection on the body of a pregnant woman and newborn.
