This analysis identifies supply chain management issues in a pharmaceutical company, highlighting information asymmetry and logistics inefficiencies.
This study conducts a comprehensive analysis of the supply chain management challenges faced by X pharmaceutical company within its drug protection business model. The study finds a major problem, such as poor integration with partner hospitals. Hospitals provide inaccurate and untimely supply information. This creates a bullwhip effect in the supply chain. Through a mixed- methods approach of surveys and interviews, the research identifies severe information asymmetry, where hospitals' unreliable supply plans and refusal to share real-time data create a bullwhip effect, leading to inaccurate procurement and excessive inventory. Compounded by slow, manual hospital logistics and a misaligned capital flow that forces X pharmaceutical company to pay suppliers upfront while waiting 90+ days for hospital payments, the company's operational efficiency and financial liquidity are significantly strained. The study concludes that overcoming these siloed operations requires a transformative strategy focused on deep downstream integration, proposing the establishment of a shared information platform, assisting hospitals in building modern logistics, and creating a joint management center to transition the traditional supply chain into a collaborative, efficient, and information-driven network.
