Sensitivity analysis reveals that weld properties significantly influence bending resistance in composite systems made with cold-formed steel and concrete.
Composite floor systems made of cold-formed steel and concrete find their application in the construction of various building types. One type of such composite system is investigated by the LWT-FLOOR project ongoing at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Zagreb. This system consists of a demountable shear connection using bolts that connect a lightweight concrete slab to a built-up cold-formed steel beam. Spot welds are used to connect the steel elements, ensuring quicker and automated production. Based on the calibrated numerical model regarding experimental tests of materials, components and system, sensitivity analysis was performed to understand how changes in material parameters, thicknesses and weld properties affect bending behaviour. The analysis revealed that uncertainties in weld properties impact bending capacity more significantly than uncertainties in thicknesses and material properties.
