This study highlights the importance of conducting thorough geotechnical analysis prior to structural design, especially in areas with high soil variability. Forty isolated footings were designed for a building in Quito, each placed on a different soil type. The main objective was to assess how soil variability affects footing dimensions and reinforcement. Forty geotechnical investigations were carried out across the city. Each footing was tailored to the specific properties of the underlying soil. Key geotechnical parameters were identified as critical to the final design. A comparison was also made between soil conditions in Quito and Lima, Peru. This comparison revealed both similarities and differences in design criteria and outcomes. Preliminary findings show significant variability in footing designs. The study confirms that soil bearing capacity strongly influences footing size and reinforcement.
