Amsterdam’s extensive network of quay walls bordering the iconic canals is a critical part of the city’s infrastructure. Many of the quay walls of Amsterdam are more than 100 years old and face structural challenges. Over the past years, an intensive research and inspection program has been conducted. This includes a thorough examination of archival records, submerged diving inspections, the application of new monitoring techniques like satellite (INSAR) and multibeam, which are combined in the newly created risk assessment model. The integration of all collected data per quay wall in a Geographic Information System (GIS) and a statistical analysis suite results in an active approach. Generating comprehensive risk profiles for different quay wall typologies supports the prioritization of inspections and renewals, it provides a base for new assessments and it reduces the costs and time required in the process. The current project aims to automate dynamic data into the risk profiles, a proactive approach and important step towards data-driven asset management.
