Comparative analysis reveals health anxiety and life satisfaction differences in diabetic adults versus non-diabetics.
Health and behaviour are two entities that affect each other constantly. The present research studied psychological variables among individuals with one of the commonly prevalent diseases - Type 2 Diabetes mellitus. Diabetes is a chronic disorder that affects a majority portion of an individual’s health and lifestyle, including their mental health. The present research study investigated health anxiety, self-esteem, and life satisfaction in Indian adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus compared to non-diabetic adults. Significant differences were found for health anxiety and life satisfaction among diabetic adults and non-diabetic adults. However, no significant differences were found in self-esteem. To explore the variables further, interviews were conducted with a few individuals with Type 2 diabetes from the sample. Effective disease management, social support, and a fulfilling life is found to contribute to positive well-being in diabetic individuals.
