This research demonstrates the role of environmental education in fostering sustainable waste reduction and recycling, highlighting community engagement and program inclusivity.
This study explores the role of environmental education programs in promoting sustainable waste reduction and recycling behaviors in Barangay 14, San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte. The research examines how various educational strategies—such as curriculum integration, community-based learning, experiential learning, policy advocacy, and behavioral reinforcement—affect community engagement in waste management practices. By analyzing demographic factors and evaluating the accessibility and inclusivity of these programs, the study assesses their influence on residents' participation in sustainable behaviors. Using a mixed-methods approach, data were collected through structured surveys and interviews with 250 residents. The results reveal that while awareness of waste segregation and recycling is generally high, the success of educational programs is shaped by factors such as resource accessibility, community support, and the age and gender of participants. Specifically, younger individuals and women showed higher levels of engagement in waste reduction and recycling initiatives. The findings highlight the critical need for accessible and inclusive environmental education to maximize participation. The study also emphasizes the importance of collaboration among local governments, educational institutions, and NGOs to enhance the reach and impact of these programs. It recommends incorporating more hands-on, interactive learning experiences to encourage long-term behavior change. This research offers valuable insights into how tailored educational strategies can foster sustainable waste management practices in rural communities.
