This conceptual paper assesses insulation performance in crumb rubber-modified concrete, suggesting its benefits for sustainable construction.
The integration of Crumb Rubber (CR) from recycled tires into concrete has gained attention as a sustainable alternative to traditional aggregates. This study explores the thermal insulation performance of crumb rubber-modified concrete, focusing on key factors influencing heat transfer based on Fourier’s Law of Heat Conduction. Through an in-depth literature review and deskstudy method, it is identified that crumb rubber content, particle size, and concrete mix design as primary variables affecting the thermal resistivity and conductivity of crumb rubber-modified concrete. The proposed conceptual framework provides a structured approach for future experimental research, supporting the development of eco-friendly and thermally efficient concrete. This study contributes to sustainable construction practices by addressing environmental concerns related to waste tire disposal, promoting energy-efficient building materials, and advancing scientific understanding of crumb rubber’s thermal behavior. The study also aligns with Malaysia’s climate needs, where improved insulation can significantly reduce cooling energy demand.
