This article demonstrates effective methods for teaching the passive voice in Polish, highlighting common mistakes among Slavic learners.
Background: In Polish language teaching programs, the passive voice starts from B2 level, but there are no obstacles to introducing this grammatical issue much earlier (it is therefore worth appreciating that in the “Hurra” textbooks, the passive voice appears already at A2 level) Purpose: The aim of the article is to present the method of teaching the passive voice in the popular “Hurra 2” textbook and in exercise book “Grammar with Culture. Persons” The attention is also paid to frequent mistakes made by Eastern Slavs during constructing Polish sentences in the passive voice, and arguments are given for introducing this grammatical issue earlier. Results: The conclusion is formulated that, especially during working with Slavic groups, it is worth introducing the passive voice earlier (to eliminate the interference, which consists in using the instrumental form of the agent). In addition, exercises devoted to the passive voice, allow consolidating knowledge of other grammatical issues, and are also good for imparting knowledge about Polish culture.
