This research compares the effectiveness of biodegradable polymers with HFCWO and CPT in improving mucus clearance in COPD patients, indicating differences in treatment efficacy.
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a chronic lung disorder that causes progressive loss of lung function, resulting in irreversible airway obstruction and mucus hypersecretion. Effective delivery of mucolytic drugs is required to cure these diseases. In this research, the delivery of mucolytic medications in COPD patients using biodegradable polymers is explored and compared to High‐Frequency Chest Wall Oscillation (HFCWO) and Chest Physiotherapy (CPT) as add‐on therapy. We utilized drug delivery systems of biodegradable polymers to facilitate local release of mucolytic medications and tested their efficacy in promoting mucus clearance. Clinical outcomes of both treatments were compared by an independent t ‐test with regard to mucus viscosity, lung function tests, and global relief from symptoms. The findings indicate that there are striking differences between CPT and HFCWO in their capacity to enhance mucociliary clearance and lung function. The research offers significant input into the ability of biodegradable polymers to enhance benefits when applied with mucolytic drug delivery in conjunction with physical therapies such as HFCWO and CPT, offering new ways of stimulating the treatment of COPD.
