Analysis reveals critical data on structural health in a UNESCO world heritage site, suggesting new strategies for conservation.
Building monitoring systems play a vital role in maintaining the structural health, integrity and longevity of old heritage buildings. The data collected from these systems provide valuable insights, ensuring that conservation strategies are based on accurate, reliable and real-world information. Present paper describes the design and implementation of a unified building monitoring system specifically built to collect in-situ data from an important historic monument, presently a UNESCO world heritage site. The system contains over 70 sensors collecting more than 200 parameters in real time, including soil, building fabric and environmental data collected from temperature, humidity, solar radiation, wind direction and intensity, rainfall, crack and tilt monitoring sensors.
